Calcium has long been sold as the cure-all for weak bones. Yet, cultures that consume the most calcium also have the highest rates of osteoporosis. While some blame this on genetics, studies show otherwise. The famous Harvard Nurses’ Study showed that the more dairy we consume, the weaker our bones become.
For strong bones, we need a healthy balance between calcium and magnesium. Without enough magnesium to balance calcium, much of the calcium we consume ends up in soft tissues. This can contribute to the calcification of brain, heart, and arterial cells, as well as promote kidney stones, cramps, and constipation.
